All Events Take Place in the Village Hall Unless Stated Otherwise

Westleigh Village Hall are starting a regular film night starting FRIDAY 30th NOVEMBER with doors open at 7pm and curtain up at 7.30pm. It is hoped that with your support to have a monthly show and then possibly once a fortnight if it proves popular.

There is no charge for the evening but we ask that a small donation is left as you depart to help pay for the licences and use of the hall. Tea and biscuits will be provided and as regular visitors to the various functions at the hall will know you can bring your own tipple and snacks.

Afterwards film enthusiasts can decamp to the Westleigh Inn for a lively debate on the merits of the film and what ideas they may have for films to show in the future.

The film we are showing is the ‘Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society’. Doors open at 7pm and curtains up at 7.30pm.This film was chosen as part of it was filmed in Bideford with many locals taking part as extras dressed as German soldiers.Based on the best-selling novel, Lily James (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, Cinderella, Baby Driver) plays free-spirited writer Juliet Ashton, who forms a life-changing bond with the eccentric Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society when she decides to write about the book club they formed during the occupation of Guernsey during WWII. A correspondence begins between Juliet Ashton and members of The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, with them sharing their experiences of Nazi Occupied Guernsey. When an idea for a book catches Juliet she goes to visit the island, making lifelong friends and taking life changing steps along the way. This book is told by way of letters and as the reader, you become enchanted by the writers of them and the love Juliet comes to feel for each of the Islanders; Dawsey, Amelia, Isola, Eben, Kit and Elizabeth. A beautiful story of love, friendship and the sadness of friends lost. From the producers of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and with an all-star cast including Michiel Huisman, Glen Powell, Jessica Brown Findlay, Katherine Parkinson, Matthew Goode, Tom Courtenay and Penelope Wilton comes this compelling romantic drama with an intriguing mystery at its heart.
